Kids Eye Exams
Kids’ Eye Exams
Being proactive about your children’s eye care at an early age can help protect their vision for years to come. At Elk River Eye Doctors, we perform comprehensive eye exams for kids so that we can catch issues early and recommend treatment plans. We want your kids to have fantastic vision as they grow up, and we’ll do whatever we can to make sure of it.
We recommend kids see an optometrist once per year from the ages of 6 to 17. Contact us to schedule an appointment for your child.
What to Expect at Your Child’s Eye Exam
A Fun Approach
We use child-friendly techniques like picture charts instead of letter charts to keep kids engaged and comfortable.
Specialized Equipment
We often use handheld devices instead of full-size machines to suit our smaller patients.
Preventive Care
We prioritize screening for developmental issues such as amblyopia (lazy eye) and myopia (nearsightedness), which are more common in growing children.
Helpful Education
We take extra time to explain the results of the exam to parents and recommend kid-focused treatment solutions, such as MiSight® 1 day contact lenses and NanoVista® glasses.
Kids’ Eyewear Solutions
MiSight® 1 day Contact Lenses
Many children struggle to see objects clearly from far away. And this nearsightedness, known as myopia, can worsen with age. MiSight 1 day contact lenses are not only designed to correct myopia but slow its progression in kids aged 8–12 at the initiation of treatment. These soft contact lenses are easy for kids to apply and remove on their own.
NanoVista® Glasses
Kids are energetic and playful, and they need glasses to suit their active lives. NanoVista glasses are designed to be indestructible, with durable materials and flexible, adjustable temples that will stand up to rough play. These children’s glasses are available as everyday prescription frames, sports glasses, sunglasses, and more. And with a variety of styles and colors, your child is sure to find a pair they love.
