Eyewear FAQs

  • Should I wear sunglasses with contacts?

Yes, you should still wear sunglasses if you use contacts. While some contacts offer UV protection, sunglasses are far more effective at protecting your eyes.

  • What is a contact lens exam?

A contact lens exam differs from a regular eye exam in that it’s specifically designed to measure the dimensions of your eyes and determine your compatibility with contact lenses. Your eye doctor will perform special tests to see if contacts are right for you.

  • Is there an adjustment period for wearing contacts?

The adjustment period for wearing contacts varies depending on the person and the type of lenses. Most people adjust to soft contact lenses within a few days, but Rigid Gas Permeable contacts may take a couple of weeks to feel normal.

  • How long should contacts be worn?

This depends on the type of contacts you have. Soft, disposable lenses are designed to be worn during the day and removed every night. Most can be worn comfortably for 8–16 hours. The number of days they can be worn repeatedly depends on the manufacturer. Ask your eye doctor for details about your contact lenses.
